Our firm-hold pomade is designed to provide long-lasting hold without the stiffness or residue often associated with other styling products. To begin, scoop out a small amount of pomade, about the size of your fingertip. Rub it between your palms to warm it up, allowing for smooth and even distribution throughout your hair.

Work your way from the roots to the ends, ensuring that every strand is coated evenly. Our water-based formula makes it easy to apply and manipulate, giving you the flexibility to achieve your desired style.

Whether it's jotting down tasks in a planner or simply mentally organizing your priorities, this small act can make a world of difference. And what better way to do it than with a brisk walk with your furry companion? Stepping outside, breathing in the fresh air, and spending a few moments with your dog not only sets a positive tone but also allows for introspection and clarity.
Sweat now, shine later! Incorporating a workout session into your morning routine isn't just about sculpting that physique; it's about nurturing your mental well-being. Even a short 10-15 minute circuit can release endorphins, boost your mood, and sharpen your focus for the day ahead. Whether it's a set of push-ups, squats, or a brisk jog around the block, make it a priority to get your blood pumping early on.
After breaking a sweat, it's time to refresh and refine. A shower isn't just about cleanliness; it's a chance to invigorate your senses and prepare yourself mentally for the day ahead. Our Forest Mint Shampoo and Conditioner combo pack is crafted to keep your hair looking and feeling its best. Enriched with natural ingredients like eucalyptus oil, peppermint oil, and tea tree oil, this dynamic duo cleanses and softens your hair without the harsh additives. Say goodbye to parabens, SLS, and DEA – our products are formulated with less than 12 ingredients for a truly refreshing experience. Finish off your grooming routine with a touch of pomade for that extra boost of confidence.
In conclusion, mastering these three morning rituals can set you on the path to success and well-being. Embrace the power of planning, the vitality of exercise, and the rejuvenation of grooming to make every day your best day. Remember, it's not just about the destination – it's about the journey, and it all begins with how you start your morning.

How Our Shower Steamers Work
Our Shower Steamers transform a regular shower into a luxurious retreat through a symphony of science and scent. Here's a simple breakdown:
A Deep Dive Into Our Steamer's Key Ingredients
Menthol: Derived from peppermint, menthol is renowned for its cooling and soothing properties. It can help open up the airways, making breathing easier and more refreshing.
Peppermint & Eucalyptus: Beyond their invigorating scent, both these ingredients have been cherished for ages for their potential benefits like clearing congestion, providing a cooling sensation, and offering a feeling of relaxation.
Sodium Bicarbonate & Citric Acid: These are the unsung heroes. When they come in contact with water, they fizz up, aiding in the release of the aromatic ingredients. This effervescence ensures that the steamers dissolve at just the right pace, providing a steady release of scent throughout your shower.
Gifting Practicality and Uniqueness
The beauty of our Menthol & Mint Shower Steamers lies in their simplicity. They effortlessly weave into any guy’s daily routine, offering a much-needed break from the norm. Soap has been an essential pillar of cleanliness and wellness for centuries, evolving from rudimentary mixtures to specialized formulations. Among its key ingredients, glycerine stands out for its unique properties. Over the years, glycerine has become a cornerstone in premium skincare products, heralded for its exceptional moisturizing capabilities. Our new Boulder Bar Soap Bars incorporate this time-honored ingredient, providing you with a cleansing experience that is both effective and beneficial for your skin.
Soaps can be a mixed bag, created from a variety of fats, oils, and alkalis. Some bar soaps are formulated with harsh surfactants like Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) or Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES), especially those of commercial variety. Others may incorporate additives like oatmeal or aloe for additional skin benefits.
Interestingly, glycerine is often a natural byproduct in handmade soaps that use traditional methods. However, it's sometimes removed in commercial soap-making processes, leaving the soap less moisturizing. Our soap bars retain this valuable component, making them stand out in the world of soap. Now, let's delve into how glycerine-based soaps like ours compare to these other types of soaps.
One of the first things you'll notice about our soap bars is their clear appearance. This transparency isn't just for show; it's a testament to the purity of the ingredients we use. Many traditional soaps have an opaque or milky appearance due to additives or fillers that don't necessarily offer any benefits to your skin. Our clear, glycerine-based soap bars provide an immediate visual assurance that you're using a high-quality product. Furthermore, the transparency is an indication of our soap's humectant properties, meaning it attracts moisture to your skin, keeping it hydrated and soft.
Glycerine-based soaps offer a perfect blend of effective cleansing and skin hydration. They cleanse without stripping the skin of its natural oils, leaving you feeling refreshed and nourished.
Many conventional soaps, especially those with synthetic surfactants, may leave your skin dry and irritated. They often lack the moisturizing benefits that glycerine can offer.
Choosing a glycerine-based soap like ours is opting for a cleansing product that respects your skin’s natural balance, while also taking an ethical and health-conscious stand.
In addition to glycerine, our soap is also made with Coconut Oil, Safflower Oil, and Oat Protein, a trio of natural ingredients carefully selected to enrich your skin with essential nutrients, enhance moisture retention, and provide a soothing touch for a comprehensive, holistic cleansing experience.
Coconut oil is renowned for its natural moisturizing properties, providing your skin with a hydrated and smooth finish.
Rich in linoleic acid, safflower oil helps maintain the integrity of the skin barrier, making it easier for your skin to retain moisture.
Oat protein adds a soothing quality to our soap bars, making them ideal for sensitive or irritated skin. It provides gentle exfoliation while nourishing your skin.
When you choose our soap bars, you're not just making a smart choice for your skin; you're making an ethical one as well. Our soap bars are made from RSPO-sourced oils, are cruelty-free, SLS & SLES-free, gluten-free, vegan, and soy-free.
Our soap bars offer the perfect balance of effective cleansing and conscientious skincare. With their glycerine base, nourishing oils, and ethical sourcing, our soap bars deliver a high-quality, holistic cleaning experience you won't find anywhere else. Make the switch today and experience the extraordinary benefits for yourself.

Now that we've got the basics covered, let's take a deep dive into the history, key ingredients, and hairstyles that can be achieved with Sea Salt Spray.
What's a Sea Salt Spray?
A sea salt hair texture spray is a popular hairstyling product designed to recreate the effortlessly tousled and textured look reminiscent of a day spent at the beach. This type of spray typically contains a blend of salt, water, and other ingredients that mimic the effects of ocean water on the hair.
The concept of using saltwater for hair styling dates back centuries, with coastal communities around the world recognizing the unique benefits of salt for achieving desired hairstyles. Historical records show that ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans were known to use saltwater from the sea and natural salt-rich springs to add texture and volume to their hair.
In more recent times, the surfer culture of the 20th century played a significant role in popularizing the beachy, salt-infused hairstyles we associate with sea salt sprays today. Surfers, who spent countless hours in the ocean, inadvertently discovered that the saltwater enhanced their hair's natural texture, creating those signature windswept and tousled waves. This laid-back, effortlessly cool aesthetic quickly gained popularity, not just among surfers but also among people seeking a carefree, beach-inspired look. So whether you're a landlocked urbanite or a coastal dweller, a sea salt hair texture spray is your ticket to effortlessly tousled locks that exude a touch of beachy charm and capture the essence of the sea.

Don’t worry—styling your son’s hair isn’t as hard as it sounds, even if you’ve never done it before. Here we’ll go over how you can style your son’s hair for big events, including weddings, big games, and picture days. With a bit of practice, you’ll be able to have your son looking cute in minutes.
Parents don’t always get a chance to dress up their kid to the nines, so when a big formal event like a wedding comes around, it’s the perfect opportunity for your son to try out a new, fancy hairstyle. Luckily, as long as the cut is good, you really can’t go wrong styling your son’s hair. Long or short, there are tons of looks that work for formal events.
For big events, we recommend getting your son’s hair cut up to a week before the big day. Don’t wait for the day before; you want to let him wear the look for a bit, so you can see if there’s anything you want to clean up or fix.
Traditionally, weddings call for short, neat cuts. A simple side part with a fade is a great, simple look that’s also easy to style. Rub a bit of paste into your hands and work it through his hair, then pull the side part with a comb.
If your son has wavy locks, you can get a great look with a dollop of clay. Style with your hands instead of a comb to really show off his hair’s texture. If you want the neatness of a short cut with the flexibility of longer hair, a medium to long cut with an undercut does the job. Put some hard-holding gel in his hair and part it with a comb.
A top knot or man bun are cute looks that’s awesome for boys with longer hair. Clean the look up by trimming the sides short. Give his hair some loose styling cream to keep it looking shiny and healthy throughout the event.
Weddings call for a bit of extra care and attention to your son’s look, but when the pictures come back, you’ll be glad you put in the extra effort.
For some parents, picture day can be a stressful time of year. Avoid all the hubbub and hurry and help your son snap the perfect portrait with these helpful tips. All you have to do to get the perfect picture day picture is remember these two things:
Picking a picture day hairstyle is a big decision. Involve your son in the process—after all, he’ll be wearing the look! Ask him about his preferences regarding length and style. Are there any celebrities or friends whose hair he really likes? Do a bit of online searching together for cuts that will work for his hair type and color, and gather up examples that you can take to the barber.
Get your son’s hair cut at least three days before picture day. Why? Well, new cuts can take time to get used to. If your son is trying a fresh look, you’ll need time to learn how to style it properly. Also, if the barber gives him a bad cut, you’ve still got a few days to fix it (please don’t grab a pair of scissors and try to “clean it up” yourself).
And the last tip: don’t wash your son’s hair the morning of picture day! Most schools won’t tell you the exact time your kid’s class will face the camera, so it might still be damp or frizzy when he gets his photo taken. Instead, shampoo and condition his hair the evening before. The next day, you should only need a splash of water and some hair product for styling. The look should be set long before he arrives at school.
If your son is into sports, you’ll want to consider hairstyles that won’t bother them when they’re playing. You may be surprised to learn how many different looks can work for most sports, though some will be easier to maintain than others. Also, be sure to read up on any hair regulations that apply in your son’s youth league before helping him pick a look.
Shorter cuts are always the safest options. They’re easy to maintain, are comfortable even under a helmet, and you won’t have to worry about hair getting in your son’s face. They aren’t likely to break any youth league hair rules, either.
Some boys like to wear their hair a bit longer. Not a problem! Remember: any style works, so long as you can keep the hair out of his face.
Something like a classic crew cut is sharp, clean, and requires almost no maintenance. You can ask the barber to leave a bit of length at the top for a bit of styling flexibility. Rub a dab of hair gel or clay between your hands, then work it through his hair. Style to preference with a comb or your hands. For a more natural, tousled look, replace the gel or clay with a spritz of salt sea spray.
Other great short hairstyles for sports are the slick back with a fade, the tight pompadour, the hard side part, and the simple scissor-cut quiff. Those looking for something truly hassle-free can always go with a buzz cut. Just remember to ask your kid if he’s okay with shaving his hair down!
Some boys like to wear their hair a bit longer. Not a problem! Remember: any style works, so long as you can keep the hair out of his face. For kids with the right hair type, tight braids are a great way to keep longer hair under control. Also, headbands, hairbands, and hard-holding hair products are your friends.
Speaking of hair products, avoid heavy hair products if they’ll be playing with a helmet. His hair is just going to get jumbled up under the head gear, and most gels, pomades, and clays will feel heavy and uncomfortable under the helmet.
When it comes to styling your son’s hair for sports, comfort should take top priority. We all want our kids to look great all the time, but if he’s spending more time trying to preserve his carefully coiffed pompadour than trying to win the game, you might want to think about a style that’s easier to manage.
Styling your son’s hair for school doesn’t call for anything fancy. Since this is his daily look, you can give him a bit more freedom in choosing the length and how he wants to wear it. Of course, you don’t want him going to school looking unkempt and sloppy, so here are some tips for school-ready hair cuts that are easy to style and still give your son room to express his personality.
Social media is a great source to find trending hairstyles for kids. Not all the looks will work—some might be too complex and time-consuming for daily wear—but you can look through examples with your son to find one that does.
A classic French with a high fade is a cute look that’s easy to throw together in the morning. This look is short on the sides with a mop on top that you can tousle with hair clay for some texture. You can also comb it back with some hair gel for a nice slicked back look or pull it to the sides for a neat part.
Medium-length hair works great, too. Ask the barber to cut it in layers to give his hair a bit of volume and texture. This hairstyle is great for kids that love to run around, as the layered cut allows for bounce without ruining the look. It’s not necessary, but you can also add a touch of hair product to help keep all his locks in place without losing the movement.
If you’re the type who worries about how their son looks, we hope this article has helped alleviate some of that burden. Yes, we all want our kid to be the cutest on the playground, but just keep in mind that confidence and comfort in one’s skin is much more impressive than the most complex hairstyle. So long as your son feels good with the hair he’s got, he already looks amazing.
]]>A quality pair of thinning shears and straight shears are a worthwhile investment if you're thinking about trying to cut your own hair long-term.
For tutorials on specific types of cuts, we recommend heading over to YouTube to see how you’ll approach your cut from a technical perspective, but what we’ll focus on here are general principles that can be used to approach any type of cut.
PRO TIP #1: Be Confident
Recognize two truths when it comes to cutting your own hair 1) it’s likely not going to turn out as bad as you think it will and 2) it will grow back, so no matter how bad of a cut you think you’ve given yourself, time will correct everything you might do wrong on your first cut. Being confident in your ability to cut your own hair will play a huge role in the success of your haircut. Watching your hair fall off as you cut through it can be a bit shocking, but stay the course, stay calm and see it through. Since you’re cutting your hair at home, you’ll have the luxury of being able to make additional touch-ups hours or days later if you think some hairs need to be trimmed further.
PRO TIP #2: Stick With What You Know
Although it may be tempting, now is not the time to be trying out a new hairstyle. For your first time it helps to approach your selfie haircut as more of a trim rather than a just-stepped-out-of-the-barbers-chair look. Think to how your hair looks 1-2 weeks after your typical haircut with your barber and aim to get your hair to look like that. A slightly longer look will give you a little more breathing room when it comes to covering up any mistakes and will also shorten the re-growth time should you want to grow it back out to try and tackle things again.
PRO TIP #3: Study Your Hair Before You Cut
Studying your hair before you cut will help with determining how exactly you’ll need to cut your hair. You’ve likely picked up a few things watching your barber cut your hair over the years and have a general idea of how he or she typically approaches the sides, tops and back of your head. Grabbing your hairs in your fingers and taking a look at their current length can give you an idea of how your barber cut your hair last time and what you’ll need to do on your own this time. Don’t be afraid to take your time and go back over spots if you think something doesn’t look right and remember to take the same approach to cutting your hair as building a piece of furniture: measure twice, cut once!
Simply from observation over the years, you've likely picked up on how your barber tackles your haircut. Approaching your own cut in a similar fashion will make things easier since you'll have an idea as to how your hair is typically cut.
PRO TIP #4: Warm Up With a Beard Trim
If you have a beard, warming up with a beard trim is a great way to get comfortable with cutting your own hair. If you normally trim your beard with just clippers, try spending a little extra time trimming things up with a comb and scissors, as this will help you to get used to how it feels cutting hair with scissors. Not only will starting on your beard help ease the transition to cutting your hair, but it will also help with giving you a better indication as to your final face shape and how you’ll need to cut your hair to best suit it.
PRO TIP #5: Start Long and Work Your Way Towards Short
If you know your barber normally does a #2 guard with his clippers on the sides & back, don’t feel like you need to use the same number to start. Starting with a higher number for your clipper guard can offer you a “practice round”, allowing you to gain some experience without having to worry about perfecting things on your first go around. The same goes for cutting your hair up top too. Keeping things a bit longer and then working down a bit further can help with nailing down your hand eye coordination while holding scissors and getting a feel how your hairs will fall into place after cutting.
Starting things off with a beard trim is a great way to warm up to your cut and helps to accurately define the shape of your head so you can determine what length up top will compliment your overall look.
PRO TIP #5: Start With the Sides
Using clippers to tackle the sides of your head is the best way to start your haircut as it’s the most forgiving and visually it provides you with the realization of “Oh crap, I’m actually doing this!”. If you’re right handed, start with your right side as it’ll be slightly easier, and then head over to the left side to even things up. If you’re left handed be sure to do the opposite. After you’ve done this you’ll have already cut about 30% of the hair on your head so tackling the other 70% won’t feel nearly as daunting.
PRO TIP #6: Don’t Fret About the Back
We’ll be honest – cutting the back of your head is probably the hardest part about cutting your own hair. This is where the second mirror we recommended will come in handy, as trying to cut the back of your head using only the mirror in front of you is super difficult. If you’re working from home and spending the majority of your face-to-face time with co-workers and friends via your phone or computer, nailing down the back of your head is not nearly that important since no one will really see it. Before you actually make any passes with your trimmer along your back, first get used to the feeling of trying to use a clipper while looking into a second mirror as it will feel strange if you’ve never done it before. Holding the clippers, with the power off, above your hair and doing “floating” passes will help you get comfortable without actually having to remove any hair.
PRO TIP #7: Cut With Force When Using Your Scissors
It’s natural to want to slowly cut away your hair when using scissors in order to prevent and catch any mistakes before they happen. The slower the better, right? When it comes to cutting hair with scissors it’s a bad strategy though as doing so can cause the hairs to bend down as you slowly close the scissor blades, resulting in an uneven cut. When you cut with your scissors, you want to do it the same way your barber does it, using short and aggressive snips. Doing it this way will prevent the hairs from bending while you cut resulting in a more uniform hair length.
Cutting your hair at home isn’t as daunting as you might think. With a bit of prep work and planning you can successfully give your hair a trim and come out the other side looking pretty good. Believe it or not, you may be so impressed with your work, you may actually find yourself asking people what they think of your latest cut just so you can proudly tell them you cut it yourself.

]]>To help you along, we’ve collected the most popular beard styles. Let’s learn how to determine the shape of your beard.
Square beard
Also known as a box beard, the sideburns are kept short with precise lines, while the beard corners form a 90 degree angle. At the chin, the hair is fuller, which adds bulk and strength to your jawline.
For guys who want to bulk up their narrow face, the square beard offers a robust look. It gives width and structure, so you can fake that strong Hercules chin.
Circle Beard (goatee)
The circle beard is one of the most popular beard styles in Hollywood. Nicknamed the goatee, it’s when the moustache is connected to the hair on the chin, forming a circle around the mouth.
By removing the sideburns completely, you eliminate any bulk that would make your face seem wider. That’s how the circle beard slims out your face. It also offers a clean and tidy style that’s attractive and easy to maintain (plus, women love it).
Mini Goatee
A smaller version of the circle beard, the mini goatee just leaves some feathery fluff growing from the chin. You keep the cheeks and sideburns shaved or trimmed down to scruff.
The mini goatee works to narrow and lengthen your face. The longer and skinnier the goatee, the greater its slimming effects, but also its awkwardness. So, word to the wise: keep it short.
Low maintenance and simple, it’s an effortless way to rock facial hair without having to groom a whole werewolf image.
Royale Beard
Like most cool things invented by the French--like croissants-- they also invented the royale beard.
The beard shape is characterized by a mustache with a soul patch that extends to the chin. The moustache can be short or long, depending on personal taste. It works similarly to the circle beard for slimming out a round face.
Overall, the royale beard looks super gentlemanly (maybe even a touch snobby). It’s known as the beard of choice among artists, hipsters and pretty much anyone who thinks and talks too much.
Van Dyke Beard
Captain Jack Sparrow knows all about the Van Dyke Beard. It’s got a pirate-meets-gypsy kind of vibe, featuring a short and pointy beard with a floating mustache that's often waxed. Usually, there’s also a soul patch —that’s the Van Dyke style.
It helps elongate your face and sharpen your jawline. By introducing sharp angles, this beard shape gives you more edge.
Anchor Beard
Your facial hair will look just like a ship’s anchor. Ths beard stretches along the jawline and is cut to a point, while the moustache is shaped like a pencil, making the entire shape anchor-like. The face is free of sideburns to keep the beard crisp and clean.
The anchor style suits beardguys with square or oval faces. You get a more chiseled effect, especially around the chin area.
Balbo Beard
The Balbo Beard is a floating moustache, combined with chin hair that traces your jawline. The hair is clean-shaven under the lower lip, except for a soul patch.
It works best for men with strongly angular faces, like a square or diamond shape (pointy chin). The beard’s roundess lends more “meat” to your face, bringing your features into harmony. It’s higher maintenance than the average beard, but totally worth the reward.
Chin Strap Beard
True to its name, the chin strap is literally a strap-like band of hair along your jawline. There’s no moustache-- all the focus is on the beard. The perimeter has razor-sharp lines to maintain the sharpness of the chin strap.
This beard shape adds structure to an oval face or enhances an already strong jawline. Although it’s not usually the most flattering beard style, for those rare few who can pull it off, the chin strap is a “unicorn” of sorts.
Stubble Beard
Stubble is classic and simple. You can grow some out in a day or two. These short, prickly hairs are trimmed beneath the cheekbones, helping accentuate your natural bone structure.
It’s a mainstay among men, loved for its carefree yet ruggedly handsome appeal. Nearly every guy suits this beard style. But keep in mind, however, regular grooming is key: a little stubble says “I’m sexy”, whereas a lot of stubble says, “I’m unemployed.” Tread the boundaries carefully.

]]>A safety razor is a shaving instrument with a protective guard placed between the side of the blade and the skin. Its design evolved from the straight razor, a five-inch shaving blade that folds into its handle— also known as a cut-throat razor. And it’s no surprise why. Anyone who’s ever watched Johnny Depp playing Sweeney Todd (the Demon Barber of Fleet Street) knows that straight razors can be deadly (but only in the hands of a psychopath).
So how did these cut-throat beauties evolve into the modern razors we use today? Read on to discover the origins of grandpa’s safety razor and why guys should continue this tradition.
Back in the mid 1900’s, safety razors were invented, completely changing the way men groomed.
Before then, everybody assumed that shaving could only be done by professionals. This meant that every time your grandpa’s beard got long and scraggly, he had to travel to a barbershop, wait for his turn, and go through a whole drawn-out process: scalp massage, nail filing, eyebrow trimming, some cologne— and on it goes.
You can appreciate the level of convenience introduced by the safety razor. Men could finally shave in the comfort of home.
For your grandpa, owning your own razor was kinda like owning a color TV. Although they both required that initial investment, they eventually saved you big bucks. Just as you’d no longer have to buy theater tickets every time you wanted to see a movie in color, you'd save on barbershop fees by shaving at home as often as you pleased.
A safety razor is built to last. Depending on how well you care for the guard, keeping it free from bacteria and rust, the razor can stay with you for years. But unfortunately, in today’s age, a lot of dudes aren’t as passionate about investing in a long-term relationship with their razor. Combined with a shaving kit, including a pre-shave oil, cream and aftershave, a safety razor is not only a worthwhile investment but is a critical component to a complete shaving routine.
You don’t have to be a green freak to care about the planet. It’s worth mentioning that straight razors are great for the environment. It doesn’t leave garbage or toxic chemicals behind.
So you can see how safety razors are an eco-smart move.
Don’t be a wasteful consumer-- be like your grandpa and shave like a winner.
Like all great inventions, the classic safety razor went through dozens of tweaks and improvements before becoming the standard version.
The double-edged model is the most popular, known for giving a close shave. With two blades on one side, you get a lot more control. While a single blade razor also keeps your face smoother and softer, the added benefit quickly and easily switching which side of the blade you use is lost.
But quality shave isn’t just about the blade; it’s the whole routine: the preparation, the patience and the products. Like good ol’ gramps would do, you need to be using premium shaving products like a pre-shave oil and a rich-lather shaving cream. When you invest in the whole package, that’s when you truly get the closest, smoothest shave.
Using a safety razor keeps you walking in grandpa’s footsteps. For the past century, learning to shave with a safety razor has been a man’s heritage. It’s a lesson that gets passed down through the generations, usually from father to son.
It’s one of those epic moments, much like in Lion King when Mufasa tells Simba, “One day, my son, all this will be yours”, but imagine instead he’s talking about his mane and giving Simba a razor.
These father-son traditions are priceless. We’re talking about bringing back a time where shaving wasn’t necessarily a chore; it was a man’s pride.
In your grandpa’s day, shaving was a customized experience.
They were made-to-order, available in multiple designs, packaging options, colour combinations and case styles. Some men even got the handles engraved. Basically, every aspect of the straight razor’s construction kept the customer in mind. It put the love and pride into grooming.
Today, you can still get this personalized shaving experience. Safety razors come in finishes like chrome, nickel and gold (if you’re really willing to splurge), as well as other special customizations.
Although these beauties are designed to a tee, they're not a light investment. So, what if you want the same quality standards but without the inflated price? Well, for starters, don’t look for safety razors that are plated in gold. Next, don’t always go for the most obvious, powerhouse brand. And finally, always look for vintage trimmings. Some things should never change.

As for the other 99.9% of gents who don’t resemble a hybrid of Thor and a barbarian, basic grooming skills matter. Let’s start with rule one: guys should trim their brows. As for the rest, take notes, lads.
Respect boundaries
Men’s eyebrows have invisible boundaries. We’re referring to the natural outline formed by the main bulk of your brow.
Outside this shape, you’ve got little hairs that disrupt your brow contour. To tidy up the mess, the idea is to remove the outliers, while leaving the general shape untouched.
This approach will keep your eyebrows neat and masculine.
Be careful about removing too much hair. If you overdo it, you might resemble a 90’s guido-- not exactly a natural look. Instead, you should only remove the excess hairs, skimming off the weight from your brows. The result should appear fresh, but in an effortless sort of way-- a “humbly handsome” type of feel.
Tools of the trade
Some eyebrows demand serious attention, while others just need a quick tune-up. But no matter how badly your brows need attention, every gent should begin at the same starting point: trimming. Using eyebrow scissors, you can tidy around your natural brow shape before deciding whether to tweeze or wax.
Eyebrow scissors
Eyebrow scissors let you clean up your eyebrows without doing anything dramatic. Sometimes, all it takes is some trimming. Once you remove the longer hairs, your brows will appear lighter and more groomed.
There’s a proper art to brow trimming. It’s all about taking a less-is-more approach. Otherwise, if you get too scissor-happy, you’ll have butchered brows with awkward sparse areas.
To know how much to cut, there’s an easy trick: Use your finger to push the long hairs upward above the main bulk of your brow to expose stray hairs. These are the ones that should be cut. Carefully trim away the tips of these hairs, about 1-2mm, or 3mm if they’re quite long. Once trimmed, brush the hairs back down into place, leaving a neater overall brow.
Tweezers
Whether you’ve got a unibrow or just a few stragglers, you’ll need tweezers. But be cautious not to over-tweeze. You should only remove hairs that sprout outside the “No Pluck Zone”. These are the stray hairs that scatter around the main shape of your eyebrow.
To establish the boundaries of your eyebrow, you can measure it against your other facial features. The start of the brow should begin directly above your tear duct and arch slightly at the outer part of your iris. The tail of your brow needs to end diagonally from your outer nostril (about 45 degrees). These measurements ensure the most flattering shape for your brow, so try to visually map out these areas before tweezing.
Keep in mind, you don’t need to bulldoze through every single stray hair. Focus on the random thick ones, while leaving the finer hairs alone. These baby hairs are light in color and not dense enough to be noticeable (except if you’re staring at them at a micro-close level). There’s no reason to pluck these little guys or else darker hairs will grow in their place.
Invest in a good set of tweezers, making the job way easier and quicker. Since it’s all about the gripping action, look for tweezers that firmly hold onto hairs without slipping off. They should also have a sharp, slanted tip, which gives you more control and accuracy over your plucking action.
Wax on, wax off
Got the eyebrows of Chewbacca? You’ll need to wax. Eyebrow waxing is faster than tweezing and far less painful when there's a lot of collateral to bulldoze through. Plus, you get more definition from waxing because it achieves smoother lines.
It’s not recommended to wax your own brows unless you’re experienced in grooming. To be safe (rather than botched and humiliated), go to a professional who’s qualified and trained to work with men’s eyebrows. Before lying down on the salon bed, be sure to explain what you want-- just like how you’d talk to your barber before a haircut. You can even bring a picture to show your ideal eyebrow style.
Never shave them
Whatever you do, never (ever!) shave your eyebrows. Sure, it seems like an obvious warning, but don’t pretend like the fourteen-year-old you never razored through your unibrow in a desperate, last-minute attempt to look less nerdy.
Hopefully, that chapter is closed. And in case it’s not, let’s review why you shouldn’t shave your eyebrows. First off, the razor isn’t precise. You might think you’re staying within the borders, but the blade can be deceiving; it’s too large to cover such tiny areas, making it easy to accidentally slice off a larger chunk of brow. The other problem with shaving your eyebrows is razor burn. Without a pre-shave cream or oil, the blade’s tugging action can cause chaffing, bumps and redness.
If you’re not a DIY kind-of-guy but also refuse to enter a beauty salon, you can ask your barber to groom your eyebrows. Although they’re not usually trained for full-on brow shaping, most of them can, at least, trim the excess hairs. Yet, if that’s not an option, you can always trust in the handiwork of your girlfriend (hopefully). Or in desperate times, you can take desperate measures: ask mommy dearest-- and maybe get some yummy tupperware meals while you’re at it.

For the naturalist guy, there’s something wonderfully rugged about letting your chest hair roam free (especially if you're Italian and wear low cut shirts). Yet, then again, a bushy open collar isn’t for all gents. Ultimately, the question of whether a guy should shave his chest comes down to a few key rules and factors. Let’s examine them all.
If you’re hairy all over...
In an ideal world, no man should ever have to shave his chest. But when you’ve got the hair mass index of Wolverine, there’s sometimes little choice. And if you’re a guy who likes to flaunt his workout investment, keeping your chest hair might be a top priority— lest you want to hide those pectorals.
In this case, you’ll probably want to give your situation some presentation.
Body groomer
Guys should use a body groomer to get the job done. These tools are precisely crafted to glide smoothly over all your appendages for a close, comfortable shave. You'll experience fewer nicks and cuts than you would with a generic razor.
Pre and post care
When grooming your chest area specifically, be sure to take the right pre-care steps for a fresh result. Guys who get their fair share of chest acne will understand. Since this area (much like your face) releases more oil than other parts of your body, it’s prone to breakouts.
Nobody wants to show off a zit-coated collar area. That’s why guys should use pre-shave oil before reaching for the trimmer. It contains soothing antibacterial oils to soften the hairs and protect the skin prior to grooming. By disinfecting and priming the area first, you’ll achieve a fresher result— no bumps or redness.
Body grooming oils
For face and body shaving, we recommend the Sandalwood Pre Shave oil. It’s a natural-based formula made with natural and nourishing botanicals, including Hemp Seed Oil, Camillia Oil and Safflower Oil to help protect and rejuvenate your skin.
The end result is a clean, proud-looking chest to rock with your V-neck shirt. And if your chest gets itchy once the hairs grow back, you’ll need a strong post-care regimen: aftershave oil.
Applying aftershave oil will moisturize your skin, soothing the area with calming body butters. The Sandalwood Aftershave Balm is formulated with shea butter, mango butter and coconut oil to hydrate your skin post-shave.
Beard wash
You can also keep that hair jungle in mint condition by using a beard wash. Go for an organic antibacterial cleanser, made with natural oils to combat BO-causing sweat and bacteria. These formulas are gentler on the skin and contain earth-sources vitamins— way healthier than your standard drugstore body wash.
Avoid shaving it
Going full-on manscaping with your chest is a personal choice, obviously. But one thing’s for sure: never use a razor.
The gliding action directly on the body is tough on the skin, often leaving behind razor burn, redness and irritation. It’s not exactly ideal for your shirtless situation. What’s more, your chest will feel like a Brillo pad when the hairs start poking through the skin. The same way face stubble is never comfortable, body stubble is even more off-putting
That’s why we tend to think of the razor as the Budweiser of body grooming, while the electric trimmer is more like your Patrón. Keeping the hairs down to a manageable level, the trimmer gives you that clean feel without having to shave all the way. You get a better balance between manliness and tidiness: a healthy dose of chest hair without looking like a primate.
Avoid waxing it
Unless you’ve got a giant chest tattoo or you’re a bodybuilder, there’s no reason to be waxing around your pecs. And in some circles, even the body-building excuse doesn’t make the cut.
Perhaps it’s only excusable when you're a male stripper or an ambassador for Calvin Klein… or you’re a 40-year-old virgin. Otherwise, bearing a chest with toddler-level softness can appear odd and unnatural, depending on your audience.
The grooming rule of thumb is generally to leave at least some semblance of hair-- even if just a modest patch. Why? Because trying to achieve the skin texture of a seal dipped in vaseline isn’t realistic or all that attractive. Plus, if you’ve got sensitive skin, you’re more likely to resemble a plucked chicken.
Yet then again, chest waxing is an extremely subjective territory. There will always be romantic partners who enjoy that sort of thing. And just the same, there will always be gents who enjoy delivering on those tastes.
So to end the discussion, once and for all, to the question “should guys shave their chest?”, we believe that the middle ground is best. Keep the area trimmed and neat if you want, but leave your nipples to the imagination-- don’t bare it all, you know? Ultimately, what ever style you prefer as a manscaper, always stick to the approach that feels most comfortable.
New haircut
Old haircuts die hard. For 2020, we’re taking a respectful break from classic vintage hairstyles like the ever-trending pompadour and those polished gentlemen cuts of the 20’s.
The texture trend
This year is all about texture. We're talking about the hairstyle’s overall shape, along with the finish on the ends: shaggy, choppy or feathered.
For something new, try a layered, dynamic top or textured brush-up. Depending on the effect you're trying to achieve, be it rugged and messy or sky-high and fashion-forward, your hair texture should be treated in a specific way to create the best flow.
The futuristic trend
Trending in 2020, men’s haircuts are taking a spin into the future.
Inspired by space themes, the comet tail design is the latest must-try. Or alternatively, pretty much anything that’s six-inches tall and resembles an abstract sculpture is on trend. You can also experiment with the crispy hard part and customize the design with your barber. Be sure you know how to tell your barber what you want when experimenting with something new.
New suit jacket
Just like your deodorant, driver’s license and glove-compartment condoms, there are some essentials you can’t live without-- like the holy suit jacket. A good, reliable suit jacket is one of those staples you need for a variety of occasions: dinner parties, restaurants, lounges and semi-formal events.
The go-to suit jacket
If you’re going to invest in just one, go with the popular must-have: a navy slim-fit suit jacket with narrow lapels. This option is safe because it tends to look the most contemporary and flattering in terms of fit, while navy is always a handy fashion color.
The robe coat
If suit jackets are too cliché or uptight for your tastes, try a similar style trend for 2020.
Introducing the robe coat— a cross between laidback loungewear and high-end men’s fashion. These robes have that work-from-home, yacht club image for that effortless yet upscale feel.
Popular in Italy, it’s basically a fun take on today’s millennial tycoon look.
New beard
You DON’T need to channel your inner Lincoln to get a cool beard for 2020. Whether you want some mid-sized scruff or a plump round bush, consider a style that’ll flatter your facial features. For guys with round faces, try shaping your beard into a narrow, angular shape to create a slimming effect, while for guys lacking that Hercules jawline, grow out a fluffier beard to enhance your look.
To maintain your beard style in 2020, here are some trending products to try.
Beard balm
Nobody likes a dry, scraggly beard. Beard balm helps hydrate, condition and add shine to your beard while moisturizing the skin underneath. The Sandalwood Beard Balm is made with all-natural ingredients like joobia oil, beeswax and shea butter, working to prevent itchiness and flaking.
Pearwood multi hair comb
Detangle your hair with a classically styled Pearwood Comb. Given it's wooden construction, it's naturally anti-static and its uniform teeth width keep your hair and beard looking neat and tidy.
Activated charcoal scrub
For a detox that’s no joke, charcoal-based skincare is a must for 2020. Used in face wash, charcoal acts as the active ingredient that absorbs impurities like a sponge, letting you naturally rinse away dirt and bacteria. For guys who are serious about maintaining a clean, fresh beard, try the Activated Charcoal Face Scrub.
New aftershave
When cologne feels too try-hard, opt for a new aftershave. Consider an all-natural formula, made with forest-derived botanicals like Cedar or Sandalwood. Leaving your face with a rustic woodland scent, it’s the kind of musk that makes your chest hair stand proud.
Smell aside, however, aftershave offers some much-need skincare properties. How’s your skin looking for 2020? Aftershave helps your skin recover from the harsh razor action by delivering soothing, vitamin-rich hydration. Sandalwood Aftershave features Coconut oil, Mango butter and Shea Butter to pamper just-shaven skin. You’ll smell like nature’s backcountry-- not a bad way to start the day.
New eyebrows (yes, we said it)
You might raise an eyebrow to the idea of brow grooming. But despite those pencil-thin hackjob brows on those diva dudes from Jersey Shore, it’s still an art worth learning (when done properly, that is). The truth is that brow-shaping can do miles for your look.
For 2020, try focusing your manscaping efforts on taming those caterpillars on your face.
Brow basics
Usually, we recommend visiting a professional who knows about trimming and shaping men’s eyebrows. However, if you’re a DIY-kind-of-guy, we recommend getting familiar with tweezers. They give you more control over your handiwork-- unlike a razor which can leave you botched and bumpy.
And for the record, never use a razor to clean up your brows. Not only are the results unpredictable, but you’ll be left with awkward stubble as the hairs grow out.
Brow styling basics
When shaping your eyebrows, be sure to use a “less is more” approach. Take a moment in front of the mirror to assess your natural brow shape. Only remove the baby hairs surrounding the main bulk of your brow, which will create a subtle shaping effect. Ultimately, the goal is for the brows to appear groomed without being overworked.
Any of these style updates can bring a major confidence boost for 2020. Just make sure to keep your changes authentic and true to your personality. It’s not about adopting a new image, it’s about enhancing the one you’ve already got.
]]>This year, it’s all about the texture. We’re referring to the hairstyle’s overall shape, along with the finish on the ends: shaggy, choppy or feathered.
Why it’s trending
Adding texture to your hair is a brilliant way to balance out your facial features. If you’ve got a small jawline or big ears, some dynamic layers up top can create the illusion of harmonized proportions. Or if you’ve got a long and narrow face, try letting your layers extend farther down on the sides, forming a low fade. This trick can bring more width to your features.
Hairstyle ideas
For something different, try an angular fringe haircut or a spiky brush-up. Depending on the effect you're trying to achieve, be it rugged and relaxed or crisp and upscale, talk to your barber about which texture might suit you best.
If you had your heyday in the 90s, you might recall the famous Mushroom Cut with mixed feelings. Also known as a bowl cut, a mushroom cut is where the hair is grown long to the temples and kept pin-straight (even the bangs), and then the sides and back are kept short.
If you ever watched Star Trek, you might recall Spock’s nerd-tastic hairdo— and yes, it’s a classic mushroom cut. The name comes from the hair’s shape, which actually does resemble a mushroom. Trendy? Not so much. That’s why in 2020, we’re inviting a fresh revival of the mushroom cut with a looser, textured version.
Why it’s trending
Justin Beiber attempted to revive the mushroom cut back in 2010. He rocked a wispy version, which he showcased at his first SNL debut, along with his infamous hair flip. But alas, this look wasn’t enough to inspire the average dude.
Hairstyle ideas
So for 2020, there’s a mass interest in making the revised mushroom cut work. Think of it as a reimagined spin on the original; except, instead of the traditional straight bowl shape on top, you can experiment with an endless range of textures and styles.
But there’s a catch: you must be prepared to grow out your bangs. Since traditionally, the mushroom cut is known for bangs, the newer versions should still have this feature. Otherwise, it’s not a true neo mushroom cut.
Trending in 2020, men’s haircuts are looking to the future.
Why it’s trending
Inspired by space travel, haircuts are harnessing the feel and spirit of a new age (where literally, the sky’s the limit). Hair is no longer just about looking handsome or “pretty”; it’s about getting creative and personal with your style.
That’s why more gents are ditching strict and hard-to-manage hairstyles for fresher, looser ways to express their identity.
Hairstyle ideas
Think outside the box. A prime example is the comet tail: a swept back look with layers that resemble shooting comets. You can also try any version of the angled undercut with a crispy hard part. Make sure to discuss your ideas with your barber to tailor the design to your needs.
Or experiment with other NASA-approved creations. Almost anything that evokes a high-powered effect is on trend. Consider sharp lines, hard angles and jagged layers.
Calling all curly-haired gents! Now’s your time to ride those waves with pride. In 2020, wavy fringes, crops and sweep-up hairstyles are on trend.
Why it’s trending
Easy to manage and volume-friendly, these hairstyles are fashionable yet low effort. Here how it works: the top can be kept short or long, showing off either tight coils to fluffy ringlets, while the sides are contrasted with a high fade. But if you prefer, you can always add more length at the sides.
Overall, the goal is being bold and intentional about embracing the natural bends and twists in your hair.
Hairstyle ideas
Need to get more daring? Consider a wavy fohawk to add another dimension of excitement and edge to your look. Want to push the boundaries even more? Try the wavy fohawk with disconnected side part. The barber will use clippers to etch a clean line, forming a side part that borders the fohawk and separates it from the fade.
With fades being so common, there’s a demand for more personalization. Get your barber to put a unique stamp on your hairstyle using clippers.
Why it’s trending
Now before you picture some twelve-year-old punk rocking a Power Rangers design in his fade, try being open-minded.
Clipper designs can be tailored for gents at any age, ranging from funky doodles to simple and sophisticated lines. So if you’re a 30-something in a suit-wearing job, you can still be taken seriously with a subtle clipper design.
Hairstyle ideas
If you prefer to take the minimalist approach, keep the design basic with a hard part and fade.

Many guys have a devil-may-care attitude toward skincare. One problem: your face is crawling with impurities, even from the moment you wake up. Throughout the night, your skin collects dust, allergens and bacteria-- a batch of grossness that gets mixed up with your sweat and any germs sitting on your pillow. If you don’t wash your pillowcase regularly, assume that it’s coated in micro-creepy-crawlies.
So truth be told, your face is quite dirty in the morning. And for those lazy few who simply splash water on their face, you need to step up your skincare routine. Water alone is not enough to cleanse away the oil and grime from your face. Those dirty pores and shiny nose problems aren’t going to solve themselves.
Your go-to face wash should contain natural oils to kill bacteria. These safe formulas containing natural ingredients are designed to rinse away any impurities safely and calmly, without leaving any redness or irritation.
After the age of twenty-five, hiding bad hair under a baseball cap is downright embarrassing. You’re better than taking these boyish shortcuts through life. Think of your hair like real estate property; if you don’t maintain the grounds, the value goes down-- and nobody will buy what your selling. Same rules go for the turf on your head. Love it, nurture it, win it.
The rush job
Now, we do understand that mornings are time-sensitive. Most guys don’t have the time or patience to do a full-on wash and blow dry session. That’s fair, but nevertheless, you can still work on some decent hair-revival procedures.
For example, if you styled with pomade the previous day, you’ll probably wake up with some goop still remaining in your hair. That’s a good starting point for hair styling when you’re not a morning-shower person. The bad news is that your hairs are sprouting akwardly in all directions like the top of a pineapple, or your cowlicks have declared anarchy on your head. It’s time to regain control.
The medium rush job
When time is limited, run your fingers through your hair to warm up the product from yesterday’s hairstyle. Manipulate the hairs back into place. If your hair is acting extra stubborn, prepare the sink dunk solution.
Place a towel around your shoulders to keep your shirt dry, place your head in the sink basil, and rinse out any excess pomade from your hair. This quick-fix solution gives you a somewhat fresh starting point for a five-minute blow dry.
Moisturizer isn’t just for ladies or high-maintenance dudes. It’s your daily solution for keeping your face fresh, soft(ish) and healthy-looking.
Think of moisturizer as a face guard. It creates a barrier between the atmosphere and your face by boosting hydration in the upper layers of your skin. This form of protection helps defend your skin against pollution, allergens and other acne-causing invaders. Meanwhile, moisturizer can also improve your skin quality, using nourishing botanicals and vitamins to brighten and smooth your complexion.
It’s recommended to use a moisturizer containing natural ingredients for sensitive skin. These natural-based formulas are made with fatty essential oils from coconut and jojoba-- the best ingredients for pampering your skin through any season, every day.
Your girlfriend might tolerate your familiar funk, but to the rest of the world, it’s gross. That’s why deodorant is non-negotiable for your morning routine.
However, one issue still remains: standard deodorants contain unhealthy ingredients like aluminum and parabens. Not only are these additives known to cause cancer, but depending on your level of sensitivity, they can play twister with your hormones, creating a stressful chemical imbalance. The solution? A natural deodorant.
They’re designed with safe herbal extracts like rosemary, lemongrass, and tea tree oil to prevent the buildup of BO-causing bacteria. Instead of clogging the pores in your armpits, these natural ingredients help control odor even while you sweat. It’ll also compliment your unique scent by working in harmony with your body chemistry, rather than masking your musk.
So you’ll be erasing BO, but leaving a tiny trace of your trademark pheromones. Now that’s how a man starts his morning.
Just like mama told you, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Have the breakfast of champions by getting a generous dose of protein from sources like yogurt, avocado and nuts. Or if you’re really health-savvy, consider making a kale smoothie every morning. Made with greens, fruits, chia seeds, macca and any other energy-boosting fad food you can find, a smoothie is a genius way to get your fuel pumping in the morning.
Besides, hearty breakfasts aren’t only good for your health; they keep your looks in check too. So if you want to maintain that young hairline and skin, always start your day with a nutrient-rich meal.
You don’t have to be an early bird to master these morning must-dos. As long as you stamp these steps into your routine, you’ll always get a fresh start to the day.

The purpose
Recreating nature’s hot springs, shower steamers release a calming mist. Filling the air with fresh essential oils, it creates an aromatherapy experience at home.
Steamers can be placed anywhere in your shower: floor, ledge or soap dish. To use, simply rip open the packet, pull out the tablet and leave it in a moist spot. Keep your shower door or curtain closed, creating a hot-box effect as the steamer dissolves in the humidity.
A better way to bathe
While this style of showering may seem luxurious, it actually makes bathing simpler and more efficient. In fact, geothermal baths in nature are one of the purest ways to cleanse. "Fifteen minutes in the steam room opens pores, increases sweating, stimulates circulation, and eliminates toxins," says Francesca Fusco, a dermatologist in New York City.
Even animals bathe this way. If you’ve ever binge-watched BBC’s animal documentary on Netflix, you’ve heard David Attenborough talk about how the Japanese Snow Monkeys bathe in hot springs. So clearly our primate ancestors know what they’re doing (and so did the Romans).
Your skin can detox
Shower steamers de-clog your pores to help detoxify the skin. The cleansing mist works to relax your pores, loosening any trapped grime created by dead skin cells, dirt and oil.
This natural cleansing process minimizes your washing time-- a safer alternative to long, hot showers. Spending too much time in hot water strips away the natural oils in your skin, which can lead to dryness and irritation. "Some people advocate extremely cold water for invigorating the circulation," explains Jessica Krant, a board-certified dermatologist with the American Academy of Dermatology. "Other than avoiding extremely hot temperatures, I say use whatever temperature feels best.”
So stick with lukewarm water — or cooler if you can handle it-- and no longer than fifteen minutes.
You’ll be gentler on your skin
Rather than scrubbing away with a brush, a steam shower is way more skin-friendly. The natural cleansing action of the vapors soften and exfoliate your skin naturally. According to Dr. Melissa Piliang, a dermatologist at Cleveland Clinic, scrub brushes are a no-no. “These can be too harsh and possibly cause microscopic scratches in the outer layer of your skin.” A steam shower, on the other hand, provides a deep clean, while you’re lathering soap on your body with your hands.
This showering method is much more effective and gentle for sensitive skin. You should also be tender, even after your shower, when patting down with the towel. Don’t rub the towel on your skin like you’re in a rush. “Rubbing can cause irritation and leave you itchy,” Krant says. “Patting also leaves some water on the skin, which should be sealed in with moisturizer after each shower.”
You can keep it natural
Shower steamers and soap with natural ingredients keep skin bright and healthy. Many generic versions, however, contain DEA (Cocamide diethanolamine): a cleansing chemical used in many beauty products. In 2013, the Environmental Health Agency (CEA) published a study revealing that DEA is cancerous.
Another ingredient to put on your watchlist is SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate). It’s used as a surfactant-- an agent that helps create soap foam. Although it feels nice, SLS is labelled as a “moderate hazard" because it’s been linked to neurotoxicity, skin irritation and hormone imbalance, according to the Environmental Working Group's Skin Deep Cosmetic Safety Database.
By staying clear of these ingredients, you can embrace a healthier and more natural approach to showering,
You can relax
The ancient Romans used steam rooms for stress relief and recovery. They included fragrant essential oils, like Juniper and Lavender, to calm the senses for hyper-relaxation. It’s much like the aromatherapy steam rooms in today’s spas, but with one key difference: the Roman bath houses were communal (meaning civilians bathed together).
Whether you find this image weird or weirdly tantalizing, it’s safe to say that your steam shower is usually a solo experience. So needless to say, aroma-infused showers are a clever way to bring the art of steam to your home.
Shower Steamers by Rocky Mountain Barber Company
Inspired by British Columbia's Hot Springs Cove, Rocky Mountain Barber has introduced Menthol & Mint Shower Steamers. Releasing a mist filled with Peppermint & Eucalyptus oil into the air, they turn your shower into a geothermal bath. It feels like you’re bathing deep in the wilderness.
So grab your shower beer and escape into nature. With 6 individually shrink-wrapped shower steamers that are easy to use, you’ll experience a more rejuvenating wash and improved sense of wellness. You can even relieve nasal congestion and seasonal allergies with the benefits of aromatherapy.
So it seems there’s some logic, after all, to the motto, “Do as the Romans do”. By going back to tradition with a steam shower, your standards will never settle for regular showers again.

This is our glimpse into manhood: the art of shaving.
Knowing when to start shaving involves a few factors. For an expert’s opinion, we turned to Dr.Clayton Cummings, a pediatrician at St. Louis Children's Hospital and an Instructor of Pediatrics at Washington University School of Medicine.
What’s the right age to start shaving?
Here’s the blunt, honest truth: every guy reaches this milestone at his own time, whether it’s at 12 or 25. Basically, there’s no exact age for a guy to start shaving.
The question of when depends on personal factors like puberty stage, maturity level and personal preference, explains Dr.Cummings. So if papa hasn’t yet passed down his shaving wisdom, you can still learn about the signs of being ready. Besides, it’s better to stay informed rather than risk botching your face by following a clueless kid giving a shaving tutorial on YouTube. Not advised.
When puberty makes you hairy
In the early stages of puberty, boys get a little whiskery around the lip and chin area. These barely-there bits of hair, otherwise known as “peach fuzz”, can be a sign to start shaving. But it’s not necessarily the rule.
When making the choice to start shaving, a guy should consider “how much hair he has and if it’s bothersome or embarrassing to him,” suggests Dr.Cummings. You can always wait until more hair grows. Not everyone who reaches the early years of puberty will become hairy enough to bother shaving.
Plus, everyone reaches puberty at different stages. This means that hair will grow at different rates for every guy. If it’s just some blonde fluff on your lip, and you’re not desperate for a razor, it’s better to wait until the hairs become darker and more obvious. Otherwise, rushing to feel like a “big boy” can just cause a lot of unnecessary effort and hassle.
Shaving over a young, soft face can cause complications such as “ irritated skin or other problems such as razor burn, bumps, nicks, cuts, or painful ingrown hairs. Ingrown hair is a condition where the hair curls back or sideways into the skin, causing an infection of the hair follicle,” Dr.Cummings explains. These sore follicles (folliculitis) is also known as "razor bumps".
So, if you’ve still got baby skin, it’s better to wait another year or so to start shaving. When your skin ages a bit more, becoming tougher and fuzzier, you’ll know you’re ready.
A shaving gel is perfect for teenagers with acne because it's clear, allowing them to avoid pimples and other problem areas.
Maturity matters
Although puberty can be a sign to start shaving, the decision also comes down to a guy’s maturity level.
If you’re an early sprouter with a hint of moustache at twelve, you may not be emotionally ready to start adult-type grooming habits. And that’s okay. According to Dr. Cummings, puberty isn’t always a reliable indicator for when to start shaving. A guy should start shaving when the hairs are visible and he feels prepared to begin this routine.
Sometimes, certain parts of the face are ready for shaving but not others. For example, maybe your upper lip and sideburns have hair, but not your jawline. In this case, you can start shaving, only focusing on the hairy areas without shaving your entire face needlessly.
Bottom line is that these routines shouldn’t be forced. Some guys might be physically ready to shave but not emotionally. So just because you’re sprouting some peach fuzz doesn’t mean you’re should start shaving. Yet it’s normal for young gents to be excited about starting. The ability to shave is an empowering and masculine experience that can boost confidence. But no matter how strong your enthusiasm, if your facial hairs aren’t making their debut, the razor shouldn’t either.
Personal preference
The decision to start shaving also depends on a guy’s personal style.
A thirteen-year-old might develop more thicker beard growth than a sixteen-year-old, but they might have different preferences about how they want to look. Perhaps the thirteen-year-old is enjoying his early sprouts of manhood— even if a little patchy and awkward. And the sixteen-year-old with less hair might start shaving because it feels right for his age and image.
Ultimately, most teenage guys can’t yet grow a thick beard. That’s why most prefer shaving to maintain a neat look, rather than have an uneven, scraggly mess of hair. But then again, if you’re the naturalist type or “just too-cool-to-care”, you might prefer to let your peach fuzz fly free.
There’s never one true indicator to know when a guy should start shaving. But one thing’s for sure: rushing to the razor with a hairless baby face is a big no-no. Say no to premature shaving. And for those who are ready, practice safe shaving.
A clear shave gel is perfect for those looking to tighten lines around their beard, mustache, sideburns or goatee, or those with sensitive skin or breakouts that want to avoid shaving over sensitive areas.
For the perfectionist type, the need to maintain a polished style at all times is non-negotiable. Then on the other side of the spectrum, there’s the laid-back guy who prefers an effortless, semi-clean look. And finally, you’ve got the man who lies somewhere in-between. To find out where you stand, we consider three main factors: hair length, style and budget.
Length
Not every haircut requires the same level of maintenance. Obviously if you’re rocking John Snow’s shaggy locks, you don’t need a barber’s intervention until you resemble a homeless wildling. So depending on the length of your hair, you can plan your haircuts accordingly.
For short men's haircuts
We recommend once a month--minimum. But if your hair grows fast and you’re picky about precision, these visits could increase based on your budget and style (which we’ll discuss later).
For short hair, we recommend once a month--minimum.
For medium length haircuts
Guys with medium length should be getting a haircut every 4-6 weeks. This schedule is based on an average level of upkeep. However, this routine can vary based on factors such as hair texture and whether you’ve got a fade-- see the section on style for more details.
Guys with medium length hair should be getting a haircut every 4-6 weeks
Long hair
With volume for days, you’ll need a trim every 4-6 months. The idea is to keep your hair long and healthy, until you reach a tipping point where mama dearest will cringe.
Style
Every hairstyle demands its own level of maintenance. Based on the complexity of your haircut’s texture, sides and lineup, you can plan your barber visits accordingly.
Frequent maintenance hair
A fancy haircut must stay up-to-par. Detailed styles with high fades at the sides like a buzz cut, sweep-back or short quiff rely on crisp lines and precise layers. Expect to be getting a haircut every two to four weeks.
Complex hairstyles with fades should never surpass an inch beyond the grow-out stage. Especially for high fades, you need to maintain the contrast between the length at the top and the shortness at the sides. Otherwise, you’ll lose the dimension and sharpness, meaning way less impact. Think of Bradley Cooper and his whole “I’m-too-handsome-to-care vibe”-- not recommended for 97% of the population.
If you’ve got a razor side part, you might be even pickier about touch ups. Unlike traditional parts, the new versions shave a clean into the scalp with a trimmer, creating more emphasis. This line should stay as clear and visible as the lanes on a road. Or else, that cool line will look more like a cool scar. The key is for a razor part to appear intentional, rather than an unfortunate accident.
For any hairstyle that follows such strict rules, you’ll need to get haircuts often. Period.
Medium maintenance hair
When you don’t want to make the barbershop your unofficial mancave, a haircut with less precision is key. Consider haircuts like a loose quiff, curly high-top or textured spikes. These styles have a more flexible grow-out stage, so they still look acceptable after a month or two.
You can possibly stretch out the lifespan of these haircuts if you’re handy with a blow dryer. Taming outgrown hair with decent styling skills and pomade will add longevity to a haircut that’s grown passed its prime.
Don Draper’s traditional business cut is a great example of medium maintenance. The sides are left short, old-school style with no fade, while the top has just enough length to comb back. At the neckline, his hair is tapered, allowing the back to grow out naturally. A tapered neckline might be more suitable than a blocked neckline because hardlines at the back need to be touched-up more regularly.
So take a lesson from Draper: if you’re gunning for an average haircut schedule, don’t get a fade at the sides. Or at most, a low fade might work if your hair grows out slowly.
Low Maintenance Hair
Some men’s hairstyles are naturally awesome. From messy waves to the man bun, you can grow out your mane without much upkeep. Around 2-3 times a year is enough to keep your length in check.
But we’re not just talking about long, shoulder-length hair. Haircuts like a long quiff or a thick brush-up can continue to grow out over months, while requiring increasingly more pomade to keep that gravity-defying style afloat.
Some versions go for a wild level of volume, swerving up to six inches from the scalp. These long-ish haircuts should be cleaned up every 3-4 months-- unless you’ve got a fade at the sides. In this case, it’s no longer a low maintenance cut.

Budget
Frequent barber visits can stack up the bills. The cost will depend on two factors: your hairstyle’s needs and your hairdresser.
Big budget haircuts
If you’re seeing a master barber at a top salon, you could be splurging $100 per appointment. Weekly visits for a haircut will rack up a bill of $400 per month.
This option might not be realistic for all, especially if you’re the guy who tracks every hair follicle and would sooner hide under a beanie than expose an imperfect lineup.
Average budget haircuts
Now, let’s talk about budget more practically. Assuming you’re going to an average level barber, you’re looking at around $20-$30 per haircut. For a high-maintenance haircut, you’ll be budgeting $50-$120 per month-- not including tip. Yikes!
If you want to save on cost, consider opting for a hairstyle that can grow out without needing frequent touch-ups. Or you can always try a trainee barber at hair school; this option is the cheapest. But do so at your own peril...
As might be expected, the matter of how often guys should get a haircut is not solvable in one clear-cut answer. Every guy has his own preferences and needs, creating many variables that can affect his haircut schedule. To always keep your hair looking fresh and presentable, plan your cuts effectively. And if you’re ever slacking, never hide your hair under a beanie. You’re better than that.

]]>Unfortunately, not every gent has this luxury. For those who’ve ever seen Vinny’s infamous haircut “tragedy” on Jersey Shore Family Vacation, you’ll understand the grief— even if overdramatized. Yet, that hack job of a haircut provides a valuable lesson for us: the art of communicating with your barber.
Speaking your barber’s language is a special skill. To make sure you never suffer a bad haircut, we’ll review exactly how to tell your barber what you want.
For starters, know that barbers tend to be sensitive. They’re artists, after all. So, if you act like a picky know-it-all, you might annoy your barber. And it’s unwise to vex the guy holding the trimmer...
To illustrate this point, we’ll return to Vinny’s mistake. When he enters the barber shop in Miami, he fails to leave his ego at the door (as usual). During the briefing stage, he anxiously stands one inch from the mirror, discussing his hair as if it’s some holy relic. Relax buddy. This arrogance won’t establish a good rapport with your barber.
Make sure to be friendly and positive, even if you’re nervous. These good vibes set the tone for flowing communication.
Telling your barber what you want comes down to four basic instructions: length, texture, sides and neck area.
These instructions may vary according to specific details, like how you part your hair or your preference for a line up. But essentially, these points will guide the basics of your haircut.
Getting the right length at the top is crucial to being a satisfied customer. Too short, and your confidence is on standby until your hair grows back, and too long means you feel cheated.
Be specific about how many inches you want cut or indicate the amount with your fingers. If you’re going short, it helps to be familiar with the clipper guard numbers. If you prefer to leave more length, it’s best to ask for a quarter inch shorter than your ideal growth stage.
This approach lets you extend the wear time of your haircut, letting it grow into your perfect length within a few weeks. The idea is to avoid the need for frequent visits to your barber— unless you’re a serious diva who MUST maintain his optimal length at all times. If so, kudos to you.
When we talk about texture, we’re referring to the technique of your haircut. Depending on your style, whether it’s a messy crew cut or a slicked-back look, your hair must be treated in a special way to achieve the right flow.
Since everyone’s hair has its own unique qualities, like cowlicks and thickness, you should make sure your hair type works with the style you want. If you’ve got thick, curly hair and you’re looking for fohawk, you might have trouble taming your hair into place. So when you’re experimenting with something new, ask your barber if you’re able to rock your vision. Otherwise, you might have hair maintenance problems at home.
Take Cristiano Renaldo, for example. He’s a wavy-haired dude who force-gels his combover into a stiff mound. You could imagine the catastrophes his bed head. Lesson here is to choose a style that works with your hair’s natural texture.
Here are some keywords to use when discussing texture with your barber.
Spiky or wispy
For this technique, the barber cuts your hair at varying lengths to achieve the look of movement and volume. It’s great for expressive haircuts that are shaggy or messy.
Sliced
To lighten thick hair, the barber will use thinning shears to slice away the weight from the tips. The resulting texture appears more soft and wispy.
Layers
Layering is a technique that trims each section of hair at varying lengths, causing them to fall at different points. This cut creates the appearance of thicker, more dynamic hair.
Razored
When going extra short, usually along the sides, the clipper gives you that razored-down effect for a clean fade. You can also get a razored side part for a sharp separation line.
Here’s where guys tend to get picky. When talking about the sides, you’re focusing on the length and fading technique. This feature is highly individualized because each variation can draw attention to different facial features, while also distracting from your less-favourite ones.
The fade
A fade is the extent to which your hair disappears along the sides. There are three main versions with slight variations in-between: a high fade, mid fade and low fade.
A high fade is when the hair length is buzzed down at temples, transitioning into a buzz cut toward the neck. A mid fade begins at the center of the sides before it graduates to a shorter length. Finally a low fade starts just above the ears, giving you a more subtle effect.
Modern fades
Not all fades are so textbook. There’s some modern variations to help individualize your look. Prepare to bing your A-game communication skills to tell your barber what you want.
Drop fade
This type of fade transitions in a spiral style around the ear. Unlike the standard versions that disappear downward horizontally, the drop follows a semi-circular format.
Tapered fade
Meant for long hairstyles, a taper fade is when the barber blends the top length into the neckline. The fade starts around the temples and is combined with a razor-sharp line up, creating a more polished look.
Skin fade
A skin fade blends the sides down to a level 0. It’s a young, trendy version that creates a sleek finish.
Cleaning up the back of your neck is like your car detailing to a great haircut. And yes, these details matter. There are three different neckline styles: rounded, blocked or tapered. Choosing the right one makes a surprising difference to the overall impression of your cut.
Round neckline
For a softer finish, a rounded neckline removes the corners for a scooped effect. It gives the illusion of a narrower neck.
Blocked neckline
Need more stature? A blocked neckline creates sharper corners which widens the appearance of your neck. The only downside is that they don’t grow out so neatly.
Tapered neckline
As the most natural-looking neckline, the tapered version cleans up the back by following your growth pattern. This version is easier to maintain since it stays neat while growing out.
Add these hair terms to your vocab. Learn them and live them. When you’re confident about your hairstyle goals, you’ll be a pro at telling your barber what you want.

]]>What’s a Shower Steamer?
For thousands of years humans have used essential oils in steam rooms and saunas for stress relief and recovery. The soothing scent of eucalyptus and peppermint oil has been used for centuries to help individuals reduce stress, enhance rest and encourage relaxation. A shower steamer is made using these same types of essential oils and has the same effect as they dissolve in your shower.
A shower steamer is basically a bath bomb for your shower. It fizzles, bubbles and releases an amazing scent while you shower but won’t require you to take out a loan to pay for your water bill. They’re super easy to use too – simply place one somewhere in your shower, and as water hits it, it fizzles and releases an amazing mix of essential oil scents into the air. The steamer portion of the name comes from the fact that the steam and humidity generated from a hot shower helps to enhance the aroma of the essential oils in the air.
Just open and place in shower. Allow water to run onto steamer to begin dissolving.
Why Should I Use a Shower Steamer?
Most people don’t really give a second thought to their shower routines, and why would they? Showers are a super efficient way to shave some serious time off your morning routine and are a much better means for cleaning oneself than a bath. For most people, their shower routine consists of jumping in, quickly cleaning themselves, and then hopping out all within a few minutes. The shower though is a great place to slow things down, de-stress and do some of your best thinking. Whether you shower in the morning or at night, taking some extra time to really enjoy your shower is a great way to plan how your day is going to go or reflect on how it went - and a shower steamer can help create an environment that encourages you to relax, de-stress and think more clearly.
Peppermint, Eucalyptus & Menthol are also great for relieving nasal congestion, and as you can likely imagine, a hot shower with the sharp smell of mint and eucalyptus cutting through the air can provide relief to those suffering from nasal congestion, seasonal allergies or a winter cold.
Can I Put a Bath Bomb in The Shower?
In short – no. The reason being is that the essential oils in a shower steamer are much more concentrated than a bath bomb. A bath bomb in your shower will diffuse quickly and not generate much of an aroma when compared to a shower steamer. Since bath bombs are meant to be dissolved in a bath tub, the concentration of essential oils within them is fairly low so as not to cause irritation to ones skin. Shower steamers on the other hand are not meant to come in contact with your skin, so the essential oil concentration is much higher, resulting in a much stronger aroma when you shower.
What’s a Shower Bomb?
Whether you decide to call them shower bombs or shower steamers is a matter of personal preference. Either way, using one will give you the same great benefits no matter what you call it!
]]>If you’ve ever tried shaving with acne or lining up your beard, moustache, goatee or sideburns using traditional shaving cream, you know how it can be like trying to shave with your eyes closed. Traditional shaving creams, whether in the form of foam, cream or lather, typically go on thick, and as a result, make it nearly impossible to see where those skin blemishes and irritation points are located or when your facial hair lines start and stop.
Thankfully, shave gels are a relatively new shaving solution to the men’s grooming space that help solve these problems in a number of ways.
Shave Gel Goes On Clear
The biggest and most obvious benefit to using a shave gel is that it goes on clear. When you shave with traditional shaving soaps or creams, shaving over things like moles, acne, scars, eczema etc. can be annoying and painful. Typically you’ll either accidentally shave over the area - likely resulting in some serious pocket change being donated to the swear jar – or, similar to cutting down a sheet of plywood, you’ll find yourself shaving around the general area first, then slowly moving your shave inward around the affected area until you think you’ve gotten rid of all the hairs. The only problem is it takes a lot more time to shave like this and you can often miss hairs, which can leave you looking like a tween trying to grow out his first beard.
Use a shave gel exactly how you would use your existing shave cream.
When you use a shave gel you can not only see affected areas easily, and shave around them on the first pass, but you can also see exactly where your facial hair lines start and stop. Guys with any form of facial hair know lining up beard, moustache, or even hairlines with traditional creams is often super messy and wasteful. Many times, guys will apply shaving cream to their face then wipe it off with a towel so they can get a precise cut. Wiping away shaving cream usually results in a few issues:
1) You’re not getting the best lubrication and protection between your blade and your skin, which can lead to a more aggressive shave.
2) Often times the cream will get mixed in with your facial hair which can give you a false sense of where your facial hair starts and stops, resulting in line ups that are either crooked or uneven.
A shaving gel is perfect for maintaining beards, goatees, or shaving with acne.
You Get the Same Great Performance as a Shave Cream
The other added benefit of using a shave gel is that you get the same level of lubrication and protection between your blade and your face as you do with traditional shave cream or shave soaps. Whether you wipe away cream or use only water and a razor, you’re likely not getting an effective amount of lubrication that’s required to shave properly – this can result in pulling and tugging of hairs which can lead to an uneven line-up and skin irritation.
Clean up is also much easier with a shave gel. After your shave you can either wipe off what remains directly with a towel or wash your face then pat dry. Because of this, it also makes for a great travel shave solution that can be used at the office or on the road when you don’t want to worry about making a mess while you shave.
]]>Taking up residence on your face with its own baggage and area code, nobody blames you for trying to evict this ugly trespasser. But should you?
You can TRY to accelerate a pimple’s move-out process, you can’t force it. Breakouts are like breakups; if you cut ties too aggressively, you’ll leave behind big, glaring scars. So take this advice: don’t pop your pimples! For all the nitty-gritty reasons, we referred to Joshua Zeichner, M.D., director of cosmetic and clinical research in dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York.
Going into combat with your skin is a losing battle. While you might extract some goop, you’re actually causing trauma to your face and worsening the problem. To understand why, let’s briefly review how a pimple forms.
Think of the pores in your face as a dirt collector. It gets clogged with dead skin cells, oil and bacteria— the dreaded recipe for pus. As this white invader irritates the pore, “it creates a collection of inflammatory blood cells that accumulate within the follicle and reach the surface of the skin,” Dr. Zeichner explains.
When you force the pimple to release its junk, all that poking and pressure leads to more swelling. It’ll just get redder and puffier.
Bottom line, don’t poke the bear.
Pimples are like icebergs. You can only see the white tip, but deep down below, their size could be enormous. If you underestimate the depth and start popping, the wreckage to your face might be titanic.
Since you can’t actually see how far the blockage goes into your pore, you can’t tackle the problem properly. It might look like a harmless surface zit, but for all you know, you could be pushing the pus further into your skin. According to Dr. Zeichner, when this happens, the oil forms a "balloon-like" shape under the skin and inflates, depending on how much oil is left.
By the next day, you could end up with a large nodule. This monstrosity of a lump is when the infection festers deep in the skin, causing major swelling which forces the area to harden.
Instead of squeezing the spot, he suggests using a spot treatment containing benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid to dry out the pimple safely.
Picking at the problem can cause a scar. On a micro level, you’re basically puncturing your skin.
As Dr. Zeichner reveals, when you pop a pimple, you’re forcefully pushing out the contents — bacteria, oil, debris — creating a tiny wound. Depending on the extent of your popping work, you can damage the skin tissue. In the best case scenario, it’ll heal into a scab, peel off and fade away.
But other times, the damage is enough to form a scar. If it’s one of those deep bloody pimples, the leftover mark won’t fade. That’s how you get crater-like pits in your face.
You’ll know to keep a hands-off approach to your pimple when you squeeze it and “only blood comes out,” Dr. Zeichner says. “It's a sign your pimple should not be messed with, so stop touching it immediately.”
If you want to invite more friends to your pimple party, go ahead and pop that zit. Squeezing your face — whether it works or not—can create new spots.
Not only are you introducing extra bacteria to your face from your fingers (and who knows where they’ve been), but the gunk that oozes out will seep into neighbouring pores and spawn new minions. Dr. Zeichner explains that the bacteria, oil, and debris contained by the acne papule or cyst, once released, can spread and lead to more acne. You might not see a new pimple form right away; it could take days or even weeks.
So don’t be fooled by a “successful” extraction. Your handiwork will usually take its toll. It’s better not to gamble with your odds.
Let’s be honest: there’s a creepishly satisfying sensation that comes with popping a zit. Especially if it’s an annoying Godzilla of a blemish, you’ll get that weird rush of relief watching all the crud squirt free. Ew…but so Ahh.
Except that’s when the trouble starts: Once your adrenaline gets going, you’re scouring your face for more opportunities to achieve that delight. Like a shark getting a whiff of blood, you can’t stop when you’re in hot pursuit. Before you know it, you’ve been in the washroom for 20 minutes and your face looks like you’ve been making out with a jellyfish.
Sound familiar? Resisting this urge to pop is your primary solution. You’ll prevent the frenzy from taking over.
When it comes to pimple popping, abstinence is your best form of protection. Only when the zit is ripe and ready, with the whitehead poking out, can you give a tiny nudge. And if so, make sure your hands are super clean and you wash your face afterwards. But ideally, you should let a pimple heal on its own. By maintaining a healthy skincare routine, including a face wash containing natural antibacterials, you can defend against breakouts.
Whether your skin is dry, oily, acne-prone or a combination of all, our Daily Face Wash features ingredients like Aloe, Jojoba Oil & Argan Oil to help you improve and maintain the appearance and overall health of your skin.
When skipping the pre and post shave steps, your skin isn’t protected or hydrated enough to prevent redness, irritation and bumps. For this reason, fellas, we must respect the shaving trio: pre-shave oil, aftershave and of course, shaving cream. Let’s review why these essentials matter.
Here’s the difference between pre-shave oil, aftershave and shaving cream.
Why you need pre-shave oil
Shaving without pre-shave oil is like driving a car without oil. When the car parts grind together, the engine dies-- similar idea to razor burn. When there’s not enough lubrication, the shaving friction is too abrasive on your face.
This is why a nutrient rich pre-shave oil is the backbone to any great shave.
How pre-shave oil works
A pre-shave oil helps hydrate and protect your skin before shaving. This way, the razor can slaw off your beard more smoothly.
Your face needs to be moisturized for the razor to glide along, meaning there’s less "tug and pull" while you shave. The result? Almost no irritation or razor burn.
A safer shave
There’s another reason we use pre-shave oil: its anti-inflammatory benefits. The best versions, like the Sandalwood Pre-Shave Oil, also acts as a disinfectant, preventing any bacteria or other nasties from the blade entering your pores. So not only are you nourishing and moisturizing your skin, you’re also defending against acne.
The Sandalwood Pre-Shave oil includes Hemp Seed Oil, Camillia Oil and Safflower Oil. These vitamin-rich botanicals nourish your skin, making your face ripe for razor action. To apply, put a few drops onto your fingertips and massage the serum into your beard or scruff. Let the oil work its magic for a minute before slathering on the shaving cream.
Shaving cream: the halfway mark
Once you’re primed and ready, the next move is your shaving cream. This step, as most know, involves applying a creamy lather onto your face, allowing the razor skim over more easily.
Now you might be thinking, “this sounds similar to pre-shave oil”. Funny enough, it’s not. These two products actually prep you face for totally different phases of the shaving process.
Let’s learn how these phases work.
The difference between shaving cream and pre-shave oil
At a closer glance, these two products penetrate your skin at different levels. Pre-shave oil nourishes your pores and hair follicles at a micro-close reach, while shaving cream conditions the face and beard more superficially for a better razor flow.
You must always first prep your face on a deeper level before using shaving cream.
To understand why, imagine the structure of a hair follicle: inside the pore, the hair’s root is thick and tough. You need to soften that area, making it more supple and flexible, to prevent any dragging action from the razor. Then, by applying the shaving cream afterwards, the milky froth softens the beard tips, so they surrender more easily to the blade.
Always remember that a well-hydrated beard is the key to safe babyface making.
Stay natural
For even more protection, choose a shaving cream that includes natural ingredients. Currently, most guys are loyal to that toxic gunk compressed into an aerosol can. But behind the fun, whipped cream-looking puddy, there’s a landfill of chemicals like nitrates, sulfates and other hormone-disrupting additives. Assuming you’re a believer in clean and healthy living, you shouldn’t be decorating your face with chemicals. Obviously.
Anything that gets absorbed into your skin should be as pure as the open wilderness. Rather than using chemicals in a can, consider using a natural, oil-rich formula in a jar like the Sandalwood Shaving Cream to bring you out from the stone age of grooming. It features both coconut oil and glycerin to protect your face organically against nicks and cuts.
There’s also the Barbershop Shaving Cream, an elevated formula with aloe, potassium and other detoxing ingredients. Giving you that barber-grade shave, it’s a premium dose of skin pampering for a polished finish.
Aftershave: Your last move
Some final touches are non-negotiable. Put it this way: would you skip a protein shake after your workout? Just like how you repair those injured muscles after exercise, you must nourish and heal your face after a shave.
Your skin takes quite a beating from razor blades. And keep in mind that naturally, we were never meant to be scraping off our facial hair. But since we’re evolved homo sapiens, shaving is part of hiding our gorilla genes. The catch, however, is that shaving can leave our face chaffed, dry and irritated. That’s when aftershave is needed to soothe the burn. It’s made with calming oils to restore our skin (and to reconcile the loss of our caveman roots).
The difference of aftershave
Aftershave differs from pre-shave oil, which acts as the prep work for softening your pores and hair follicles before you begin. Shaving cream, however, focuses on lubricating your beard.
Once you’ve shaved, using an after-care serum helps your skin recover with rejuvenating healing properties. Then there’s an added benefit: you’re left with a natural, handsome musk. You smell like you’ve just bathed in a waterfall of tree-scented goodness.
Natural, non-toxic aftershave
Unlike most alcohol-based aftershaves that dry your skin, the Sandalwood Aftershave Balm is derived from pure ingredients. There’s shea butter, mango butter and coconut oil-- a hydrating jackpot for guys with sensitive skin, dryness or acne.
Another unique ingredient is allantoin-- an extract from the root of the comfrey plant. It promotes healing for minor cuts and abrasions by stimulating cell regeneration.
The perfect grooming routine doesn’t have to be complicated. Except it also shouldn’t be rushed with a one-step fix. By sticking to the grooming trio-- pre-shave oil, aftershave and shaving cream-- you’ll get barber-level results every time. Keep those grooming standards high and the rest will follow.

But before the learning begins, keep this crucial mindset: the REAL way to beat thinning hair is self-acceptance. Because no matter how many hair-fixes you try, you can’t restore your attractiveness if you don’t value yourself first. Understand that thinning hair isn’t the end, it’s the beginning of a more seasoned chapter in your style. The more you embrace this stage--a natural phrase in every guy’s life-- the more pride you’ll exude, regardless of your hairline status.
Now let’s learn how to conquer thinning hair.
Get a new haircut
Disguise your receding hairline with a cool new cut. It’s a subtle trick that refreshes your style, while also distracting from your thin spots.
The power of a new cut
Whether it's a drop fade, buzz cut or crew cut, there are tons of looks that hide hair loss. Daniel Craig, for example, has mastered this technique. Whether it's a cropped textured top or buzzcut, he rocks both hairstyles flawlessly despite being in his 50s.
A cropped textured top or buzzcut is a simple but effective solution to styling thinning hair.
Finding the right haircut for your problem areas will create the illusion of more fullness, while raising your confidence during this transition phase. As you adjust, both mentally and physically, to your shifting hairline, a great cut will feel empowering.
Shortly, we’ll review the best haircuts for thinning hair. But first, let’s consider the drawbacks of avoiding this change and resisting a new style.
The wrong haircut for thinning hair
The wrong haircut can actually exaggerate a receding hairline. For example, if you’re thinning at the temples, a fohawk or combover will draw more attention to your spares areas by contrast. Guys in denial who continue growing their hair, especially along the sides, will leave exaggerated bald patches that resemble Bozo the Clown. Or there’s also the outdated maneuver of using different comb-over techniques to hide thin spots. The problem is that none of these strategies are flattering--in fact, they only make you less attractive.
Prince William is a famous culprit of this wrongoing. He preserves his leftover bits, like they’re the last crumbs on earth, turing his scalp into an awkward conservation center for his remaining patches. Why advertise your thin spots? Instead, get a new haircut that suits you.
Haircut ideas to hide balding
To hide your thin spots, your haircut should work with your balding pattern. If your hairline is thin at the temples, it’s better to go with a short hairstyle with a customized fade. A medium or short buzz cut is always an excellent solution. It masks thinning areas because the borders of your hairline are less noticeable.
A medium or short buzz cut is always an excellent solution. It masks thinning areas because the borders of your hairline are less noticeable.
Another trick is a disconnected undercut. A trimmer is used to make a part in the hair, above the sides, producing the illusion of a new hairline. As this cut brings more focus to the sharp lines and the hair on top, it masks thinning areas around the front.
Overall, these types of cuts are meant to add a sharper, cleaner effect for a more youthful feel.
Shave your head: Go bald
If you’re tired of being a hair illusionist, embrace your situation and go bald. This decision takes guts and shows you’re taking ownership over your identity, on your terms, as a proud and self-accepting guy.
There’s an awesome sense of relief when you’re free from the stress of hairline maintenance. Stalling this process will only spoil your chance to feel handsome and comfortable in your own skin.
For inspiration, follow in the footsteps of bald celebs like John Travolta, Jason Statham or Samuel L Jackson. As these men gracefully show, you should NEVER feel beaten by going bald. Consider this choice a victory.
With the right attitude, a shaved head can be an asset. When baldness and confidence are interwoven, it can give off an impressive, intimidating vibe.
Try a new hair product
Hair-loss is a multi-billion dollar industry. So when it comes to harline management, you can choose from a huge Neverland of products. Whether you’re looking for hair fillers or a volumizing treatment, every lotion, potion and spray you can imagine exists.
Hair fibers
A common solution for thinning hair is hair-building fibers. It’s a temporary fix, letting you spread micro flecks over your scalp to conceal thinning patches. After applying the product, you can comb through you hair to evenly disperse the fibers and achieve a more natural effect.
Darkening spray
Another similar product is a darkening spray. The can releases a dark mist to add fullness, while also spreading hydrating agents to protect and condition your existing hairs. The best versions will also contain growth enzymes for your roots and natural exfoliators to remove dead skin cells from your scalp to prevent dandruff.
Volumizing hairspray
If you’re not a fan of faking fullness, try a volumizing hairspray. This treatment gives a temporary boost of volume by coating your hair shafts, building the density of each strand. Your hair’s texture will feel softer and shinier, but for those needing serious bald-spot-coverage, this option might be too subtle. Since you can’t expect a miraculous transformation, you’ll do better with cover-up solutions like building fibers or darkening spray.
Shampoo less often
Frequent shampooing can stall hair growth. On average, guys should wash their hair once to twice a week. Bad news to any clean freaks, excessive cleansing can accelerate a receding hairline.
The dangers of over-shampooing
Too much cleansing plows away moisture from your scalp, depleting the natural oils from your hair follicles. You need this moisture to maintain healthy growth patterns and shine.
Otherwise, your scalp can get dry, leading to unhealthy hair follicles.
Dry scalp
In worst cases, your scalp becomes a desert of dead skin cells-- otherwise known as dandruff.
These flakes clog your hair follicles, along with sebum and other impurities, creating a toxic bio-cocktail of bacteria. Under these conditions, your roots can’t grow well. The strands will get thinner, growing more brittle and lifeless as time passes.
Dull hair
Too much shampooing sucks away those lustrous oils, leaving your hair dull-- and possibly frizzy. Protecting your hair quality is crucial when dealing with thinning hair. You’ll want to strengthen and nourish the strands you’ve already got, preventing them from joining the disappearing act.
As you see, there’s no single solution for thinning hair. You’ve got a variety of tricks and treatments, some more high-maintenance than others. The best option depends on your patience level and the demands of your overall lifestyle. But never underestimate the simplest solution of all: shaving your head. A look that’s always in style-- a bald head is truly ageless.
Water-Based Hair Products
Water-based hair products provide a great hold while still maintaining a high level of flexibility, allowing you to style and rework your hair throughout the day. One of the major benefits of water-based hair products over oil-based hair products is they rinse out more easily in the shower. Oil-based products often require multiple rounds of shampooing for them to be removed. As frequent washing is one of the factors that can lead to thinning hair, we recommend a water-based hair product as it can be washed out easily.

Here’s how often you should shave.
Your shave schedule depends on the look you’re after. Whether you’d like to maintain a slight stubble or a clean, baby face finish, there are different shaving frequencies to follow.
If you prefer keeping a little stubble, you should be shaving more often, usually every 2-3 days.
This routine lets you maintain some scruff, while still being clean enough for a formal business workplace.
By the third or second day in your shave schedule, contingent on how fast your hair grows, you might be unhappy with your beard status. For this reason, you might need to shave more frequently than every 2-3 days. Instead, shaving everyday might be necessary for maintaining your stubble.
Your shaving frequency will depend on factors like hair color and other genetic aspects. We’ll discuss these variables later on.
For a hair-free face, you’ll need to shave every first or second day. Based on average hair growth patterns, this shaving schedule will usually keep a clean-shaven look.
However, as mentioned earlier, this frequency might change depending on your genetics and other factors. So, unlike the average case, it’s possible that you’ll need to shave everyday just to maintain a clean-shaven face. Let’s review this case in more detail.
Hair color
Dark-haired guys need to shave more often than light-haired guys. Since dark hairs are more visible, the 5 O’Clock shadow will visit more quickly. With light hair, on the other hand, it may take a couple days for your growth to become obvious. Guys who’re blonde, auburn or ash brown, with slow hair growth patterns, might need three days for their shadow to set.
Among the many other factors affecting your hair growth patterns are Hormones & Diet.
Hormones
There’s a reason why testosterone-filled guys have a rep for being hairy beasts. When guys have higher levels of testosterone, their hair grows quicker and thicker.
Here’s how it works: testosterone is converted to a stronger hormone called DHT (also known as the sex hormone). The more DHT you’ve got, the more potent your beard-growing potential-- AND---the more potent your sex drive. Nice.
With more DHT in your reproductive system, you might have to shave everyday to maintain a clean look, and every second day to maintain your stubble. But, with average DHT levels, you can stick to the standard shave schedule based on average hair growth patterns.
And for those who’ve got less testosterone, your hair growth is slower, so add 1-2 days to the standard shave schedule. You don’t need to shave as often.
Your Diet
Do you eat your fruits and veggies? Your diet also affects your hair growth, according to Healthline.
A diet lacking in nutrients can lead to slower growth, whereas a healthy diet leads to faster growth. So, if you’re a healthy guy, you might need to shave more often. And if you’re not only healthy, but you also happen to have a genetic code for extreme hairiness, plus lots of testosterone, you’re probably among those rare few who must shave everyday.
The downside of shaving too often
Word to the wise, guys who shave often need extra face care. You’re at a higher risk of stressing out your skin because you’re shedding off dead skin cells more frequently. This routine can cause a slew of problems such as skin dryness, irritation and redness.
But fortunately, you can prevent these issues and still shave often. With a proper care routine that includes a pre-shave oil and hydrating shave cream, you’ll help soften your coarse facial hair to prepare your face for a smooth, comfortable glide. You’ll have less irritation from razor burn, giving you the best results without the drawbacks.
Not all shave habits are treated equally. Depending on your health and genetics, as well as the type of beard you’re maintaining, every guy has his own unique set of rules. So pay attention to your needs when determining how often to shave. And if your shave schedule seems a bit needy, you can always join a shave club to organize your program.
Kind of like a support group for shaving, these clubs deliver fresh shaving supplies monthly, quarterly or somewhere in-between, giving you a consistent flow of blades and products. Here are the top shave clubs for 2019.
Dollar Shave Club
As the big player in home-delivered razors, the Dollar Shave Club upholds reliable standards. Started in 2011, this American-based company focuses on simplicity and consistency.
Members start by choosing one of three razor styles: twin blade, 4-blade or 6-blade ($3.50, $6.50 or $9.50). After the first month, replacement razor cartridges are shipped automatically. The shipping frequency is up to you. Depending on your maintenance needs, be it a full beard or slight stubble, you control the delivery schedule.
At any time, you can add other products to your upcoming shipment. From shave butter to after-shave dew, you’ll always keep your bathroom well-stocked. And you can stop your membership whenever--no commitments! It’s a peace of mind and more importantly, there’s no annoying negotiations with Customer Support.
Harry's
Harry’s shave club is built on a simple premise: “Every man deserves a quality shave at a fair price”. The company was founded by Jeff and Andy, two grooming enthusiasts who wanted to improve the experience of buying razors.
The club features three options: 8 blades, 8 blades plus 1 gel or the family plan (16 blades and 2 gels). The price for each package costs $15, $21 or $35 respectively. You get drugstore-quality blades without the hassle of in-store shopping.
Nobody likes waiting in the aisle for that elusive store associate to unlock the blades from those mini prison cells. God forbid, you try lifting the case yourself and set off the humiliating alarm. It’s as if you’re a criminal trying to steal the Hope Diamond. Needless to say, this whole shopping experience inconvenient and unnatural.
Harry’s shave club cuts out away the nonsense. The membership also comes with a quality guarantee. So if you’re not 100% happy with your order, you get a full refund--no problem.
Rocky Mountain Barber Company
Rocky Mountain Barber keeps things a little more natural. Prioritizing health and organics, this newcomer club has already become a favorite among word-class athletes like Olympic bobsledder, Christopher Spring and famous bodybuilder, Jake Dalton.
Customers receive 4 premium razor blades, 2 product samples of their choice, and a bonus shaving handle with their first order. With 7 sets of premium men's grooming products to choose from, Rocky Mountain Barber's new Shave Club offers unprecedented variety, quality and flexibility.
The shave club features products with all-natural ingredients, pure like the Rockies. The shipments focus on quality over quantity: you get 4 stainless steel, triple blade razors, along with 2 sample-size products of your choosing—all for just $9.99. These razors are made with a lubricating gel strip, pivoting head and anti-clog design. They provide a close, comfortable shave without irritation, making them safe for sensitive skin.
Included in your first box, you get a free heavy alloy razor handle, set with rubber grips. The free samples can be swapped each month, letting you try all the goods.
Gillette
As the granddaddy of grooming, Gillette On Demand is an elite shave club. With it’s long-standing history, it’s more on the pricey side. You can choose between three delivery packages: 3 basic blades, 5 anti-friction blades or 5 anti-friction blades from the Pro Glide line. Shipments range from $13, $18 and $20 respectively.
Occasionally, there’s also a limited edition package, featuring the newest razor. Gillette’s razor designs are known for all the extra trimmings. But for the laid-back guy who wants high-quality blades without the frills, you might prefer pledging your loyalties elsewhere.
If you get a membership, Gillette lets you choose between the commitment deal or the one-time option. For those who take the long-term plunge, subscribers get every 4th order free. Although there’s a catch, the freebie helps sweeten the deal.
Billie
Nicknamed the Female Dollar Shave Club, Billie puts ladies first. Challenging the marketing ploy of overpriced pink razors for women, Billie offers the same affordable bundles as men’s shave clubs, creating an equal shaving field.
By rejecting the image of women as goddesses, Billie makes shaving practical. You can still enjoy the perks of those pink razor handles, but without the inflated cost. Each shipment comes with four replacement blades at $9 per delivery. The products are vegan, gluten-free and non GMO.
By putting health before fancy branding, Billie’s shave club provides smooth skin the straightforward way. As a member, you can change your plan at any time. Either increase or decrease the frequency of your deliveries, keeping the process flexible. You can also cancel any time. After all, women might be commitment phobes too.
For any amount of shaving, there’s a shave club meant for you. Whether you prefer luxury razors, vegan products or something in the middle, choose a shave club that’ll fit your lifestyle. You’ll always keep your rotation of blades flowing for a fresh shave every time. But remember, with any club, some are flashier or snobbier than others (mostly price-wise). So be sure to join the shave club that suits your priorities, budget and style.
